Jodhpur - The Blue City

Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Jodhpur history revolves around the Rathore Clan. Rao Jodha, the chief of the Rathore clan, is credited with the origin of Jodhpur in India. He founded Jodhpur in 1459. The city is named after him only. It was previously known as Marwar. It is also popularly known as "The Blue City". The old city, where most houses are painted blue, circles the mighty Mehrangarh Fort and is bounded by a wall with several gates. This muscular fort that towers over the Blue City of Jodhpur, is a magnificent spectacle and an architectural masterpiece. The city has expanded greatly outside the wall, though, over the past several decades.
